B→ρsemileptonic decays and|Vub|

2014

We reevaluate the $B\to\rho\,l^+\nu_l$ decay width as a full $B\to\pi\pi\,l^+\nu_l$ four-particle decay, in which the two final pions are produced via an intermediate $\rho$ meson. The decay width can be written as a convolution of the $B\to\rho\,l^+\nu_l$ decay width, for an off-shell $\rho$, with the $\rho\to\pi\pi$ line shape. This allows to fully incorporate the effects of the finite $\rho$ meson width. As shown, consideration of the $\rho$ meson width effects increase the $|V_{ub}|$ value by some 8%, rendering it in better agreement with the determination based in the $B\to\pi$ decay. We take the $q^2$ dependence of the $B\to \rho$ semileptonic form factors from a dispersive Omn\`es re…

Scaling Regimes and the Singularity of Specific Heat in the 3D Ising Model

2013

AbstractThe singularity of specific heat CV of the three-dimensional Ising model is studied based on Monte Carlo data for lattice sizes L≤1536. Fits of two data sets, one corresponding to certain value of the Binder cumulant and the other — to the maximum of CV, provide consistent values of C0 in the ansatz CV(L)=C0+ALα/ν at large L, if α/ν=0.196(6). However, a direct estimation from our data suggests that α/ν, most probably, has a smaller value (e.g., α/ν= 0.113(30)). Thus, the conventional power-law scaling ansatz can be questioned because of this inconsistency. We have found that the data are well described by certain logarithmic ansatz.

On the ambiguities of sign determination of the S-matrix from energy levels in a finite box

2013

In a recent paper the authors make a study on the determination of the S-matrix elements for scattering of particles in the infinite volume from the energy levels in a finite box for the case of multiple channels. The study is done with a toy model in 1+1 dimension and the authors find that there is some ambiguity in the sign of nondiagonal matrix elements, casting doubts on whether the needed observables in the infinite volume can be obtained from the energy levels of the box. In this paper I present an easy derivation, confirming the ambiguity of the sign and argue that this, however, does not put restrictions in the determination of observables.

Universality in disordered systems: The case of the three-dimensional random-bond Ising model

2010

We study the critical behavior of the $d=3$ Ising model with bond randomness through extensive Monte Carlo simulations and finite-size scaling techniques. Our results indicate that the critical behavior of the random-bond model is governed by the same universality class as the site- and bond-diluted models, clearly distinct from that of the pure model, thus providing a complete set of universality in disordered systems.

Studies of the hydrodynamic evolution of matter produced in fluctuations inp¯pcollisions and in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions

1986

In this first paper of a series of two, we present a comprehensive study of the hydrodynamic evolution of matter produced in the central region of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions and in high-multiplicity fluctuations of p-barp-italic collisions. We shall begin with a discussion of the limits of the applicability of a perfect-fluid hydrodynamic description of high-energy collisions. A simple bag-model equation of state is argued to have qualitative and semiquantitative features expected from lattice gauge theory and present theoretical understanding. We also discuss the boundary conditions for the perfect-fluid hydrodynamic equations, and what classes of simple events would correspond…

Dynamics of surface enrichment: A theory based on the Kawasaki spin-exchange model in the presence of a wall

1991

A mean-field theory is developed for the description of the dynamics of surface enrichment in binary mixtures, where one component is favored by an impenetrable wall. Assuming a direct exchange (Kawasaki-type) model of interdiffusion, a layerwise molecular-field approximation is formulated in the framework of a lattice model. Also the corresponding continuum theory is considered, paying particular attention to the proper derivation of boundary conditions for the differential equation at the hard wall. As an application, we consider the explicit solutions of the derived equations in the case where nonlinear effects can be neglected, studying the approach of an initially flat (homogeneous) co…

Spin-lattice relaxation of individual solid-state spins

2018

Understanding the effect of vibrations on the relaxation process of individual spins is crucial for implementing nanosystems for quantum information and quantum metrology applications. In this work, we present a theoretical microscopic model to describe the spin-lattice relaxation of individual electronic spins associated to negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond, although our results can be extended to other spin-boson systems. Starting from a general spin-lattice interaction Hamiltonian, we provide a detailed description and solution of the quantum master equation of an electronic spin-one system coupled to a phononic bath in thermal equilibrium. Special attention is given…

Thermodynamics of the two-dimensional Heisenberg classical honeycomb lattice

1998

In this article we adapt a previous work concerning the two-dimensional (2D) Heisenberg classical square lattice [Physica B 245, 263 (1998)] to the case of a honeycomb lattice. Closed-form expressions of the main thermodynamic functions of interest are derived in the zero-field limit. Notably, near absolute zero (i.e., the critical temperature), we derive the values of the critical exponents $\ensuremath{\alpha}=0,\ensuremath{\eta}=\ensuremath{-}1,\ensuremath{\gamma}=3,$ and $\ensuremath{\nu}=1,$ as for the square lattice, thus proving their universal character. A very simple model allows one to give a good description of the low-temperature behaviors of the product $\ensuremath{\chi}T.$ Fo…

Kinetic model for steady heat flow

1986

We construct a consistent solution of the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model kinetic equation describing a system in a steady state with constant pressure and nonuniform temperature. The thermal profile is not linear and depends on the interaction potential. All the moments of the distribution function are given as polynomials in the local thermal gradient. In particular, the heat flux always obeys the (linear) Fourier law.
